Microsoft has released the final versions of Visual Studio 2013 Update 3 and Team Foundation Server 2013 Update 3 and the company is already is working on Visual Studio 2013 Update 4.

Brian Harry, a Microsoft corporate vice president and technical fellow, explained that with the new release, Microsoft now provides CodeLens support for Git, which provides a heads-up display overlay of code. Update 3 includes Application Insights tooling, which lets developers track application telemetry. Microsoft has also introduced an SDK to enable developers to instrument their applications.

Linksys has launched a line of managed switches that are available in a 28- and 52-port rack mountable chassis with optional Power over Ethernet Plus functionality.

The wireless connectivity and networking company's new switches also feature port authentication and MAC-based port security, which require clients to authenticate themselves before any data is passed.

Also, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol snooping and IP-MAC-Port binding functions help ensure network integrity and work to prevent network attacks.

Docker, a popular open-source container virtualization technology, started inside a company originally known as dotCloud. Docker Inc. recently announced that it is shedding its legacy identity and selling the dotCloud business to German platform-as-a-service vendor cloudControl.

Docker didn't disclose the financial terms of the deal, but Ben Golub, Docker's CEO, said that proceeds from the sale of the dotCloud assets will be reinvested into Docker.

IT users named PayPal, Google and Amazon as their employers' top three preferred identity providers to their organization, while Yahoo was ranked with the lowest priority, according to a report from CA Technologies and the Ponemon Institute.

These respondents also ranked Google, LinkedIn and PayPal as their personally preferred identity provider for accessing services as individuals. The survey was devised to understand current trends in the bring your own identity, or BYOID, field, which is defined as the use of trusted digital or social networking identities.
