Engera releases new PAN manager software

The key takeaway here is that Egenera users can manage infrastructure and cloud instances without the use of a hypervisor of any kind.

Converged infrastructure and cloud-management software maker Egenera on June 10 released a new version of its PAN Manager software that features new virtual machine-instance IT and an updated user interface.

The key takeaway from this announcement is that Egenera users can manage infrastructure and cloud instances without the use of a hypervisor of any kind.

The VMI capabilities enable users to provision server profiles and deploy workloads to both virtual or physical server environments with a single mouse click, eliminating the need to install hypervisors or additional management tools. The new UI simplifies the user experience when managing a cloud consisting of thousands of physical and virtual servers.

Egenera's VMI works through deep integration with the open source XenServer platform. Using the VMI feature, Egenera's cloud software is the industry's only integrated cloud stack with physical and virtual management, cataloging, self-service and resource orchestration capabilities.

Primary benefits to enterprises are that this reduces or eliminates virtualization costs, mitigates technology integration risks and enables support for the entire cloud software stack from a single vendor.

The addition of VMI technology furthers Egenera's mission of delivering a multi-cloud management experience that also supports all of an organization's applications including complex enterprise class workloads.

In 2013, Citrix launched the open source XenServer project with the goal of offering it as an open source server virtualization platform to incorporate greater input and participation from the open source community. A commercial version is also available from Citrix.
