Huawei has launched its latest wearable device, the $130 Huawei Fit sports watch, which provides multi-sport fitness tracking, heart rate and sleep monitoring, automatic step counting and more on a circular always-on display.
The Fit is aimed by Huawei to bridge the gap between a full smartwatch and a dedicated fitness tracker, and is built with an aluminum body that comes in two finishes, Moonlight Silver and Titanium Grey. Three wrist band colors will be available—black, which is available exclusively at Best Buy through early January—blue and orange. Following the exclusive Best Buy arrangement, the devices will also be sold through Amazon, Newegg and other retailers.
The Fit features a 1.04-inch circular black and white touch-screen display, 256KB of memory, 16MB of onboard storage and an 80mAh rechargeable battery that lasts up to six days on a charge with normal use. The fitness watch meets IP 68 standards for water and dust resistance.
The fitness band’s LCD touch screen gives users important information at a glance, including the time, the number of steps taken, heart rate and more. The always-on display is visible even in strong light due to a backlit display that is controlled by an ambient light sensor.
The device is designed to automatically sense when the wearer is walking, running and sleeping and can provide detailed information on activities and rest. Users can set fitness goals and measure their progress using the Huawei Wear app.
The user’s heart rate can be measured manually when desired by accessing the heart rate screen, or automatically tracking exercises continuously for a detailed view of heart rate over 4 hours. Five heart rate zones, for warm up, fat burning, aerobic endurance, anaerobic endurance and maximum effort, are displayed on the watch face in real time during exercise and training use. The watch will vibrate to alert a user when his or her heart rate approaches the maximum effort zone.
The Huawei Fit supports a wide range of physical activities, including walking, running, cycling, treadmill workouts and swimming, with different modes monitoring different data. The device will automatically identify the user’s activity as it is used. Data can be displayed about distance, duration, average pace, calories, heart rate range, exercise result score, new records, recovery time and more.
Comprehensive training guidance is also provided by the Fit, using physiological analytics from FirstBeat to design running plans, give real-time exercise guidance and export reports once the activities are concluded. The Huawei Fit’s training supports 5 km, 10 km, half marathon and marathon modes and can be designed according to the user’s exercise habits, available time and physical fitness.
The Fit is also a smartwatch and can be connected to a smartphone to offer alerts for incoming calls and messages. The watch vibrates when a call comes in, identifies missed calls and allows users to end a call by swiping up on the watch screen.
The watch’s sleep monitoring function provides detailed sleep analysis by tracking sleeping and waking times and evaluating sleep stages, such as light sleep and deep sleep, for users.
“Huawei Fit is the next evolution of Huawei wearables, combining learnings from products including the Huawei Watch,” Zhengdong Zhu, the president of Huawei Device USA, said in a statement. “We designed Huawei Fit to be the perfect fitness companion, with accurate tracking technology for fitness, heart and sleep.”
The Fit arrives a little more than a year after Huawei’s first smartwatch, the Huawei Watch, which began shipping in September 2015, according to an earlier eWEEK story. The Huawei Watch debuted with seven styles, ranging from a $349 stainless steel watch with a leather band to a $799 version made from rose gold-plated stainless steel with a rose gold-plated link band.
The Huawei Watch, which is powered by Android Wear 1.3, features a 1.65-inch classic round watch face and a 1.4-inch touch-sensitive AMOLED display that’s covered with a scratch-proof sapphire crystal lens. The Huawei Watch features a Qualcomm 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of onboard storage and Bluetooth 4.1.
