Delphix, which simply created its own sector of the IT market a year ago based on the way its platform manages and consumes data, on July 2 released updates that it says will give developers greater self-service capabilities to speed up application development times in key enterprise initiatives.
Celebrating its 10th year in business this year, the Redwood City, Calif.-based company has made its investment on DataOps, a new slice of the IT business that it identified and named. The company uses DevOps, DataOps and a tool called Data Pods to provide its own brand of IT data management that has been earning contracts from a growing number (now numbering about 400) of customers.
The customer list is impressive and includes AT&T, Clorox, Fannie Mae, HPE, Toyota and more than 30 of the Fortune 100.
Central Data Management Controller
DevOps, DataOps and Data Pods are all contained in Delphix’s Dynamic Data Platform, the data management package it launched a year ago that offers users the ability to virtualize, manage and secure data with a centralized controller. It has been developed using the company’s underlying intellectual property plus the data-masking secret sauce Delphix added in 2015 when it acquired Axis TS.
Delphix CTO Eric Schrock described DataOps as “the alignment of people, process, and technology to enable the rapid, automated, and secure management of data. Its goal is to improve outcomes by bringing together those that need data with those that provide it, eliminating friction throughout the data lifecycle.”
DataOps has previously been used to describe analytics systems, Schrock wrote in his corporate blog. “But this nascent movement must evolve to be broad enough to cover the complete spectrum of data challenges while being specific enough to guide decisions around processes and technology,” Schrock said.
How Delphix is Extending the DataOps Platform
New features in the Delphix Dynamic Data Platform (DDDP) include:
- support for the latest instances of AWS to drive fast, secure cloud migrations and a host of other new features;
- integration with NetBackup Veritas for SQL server to enable the use of backup data to develop applications with greater speed and confidence; and
- compatibility with Jenkins to support DevOps projects and enable more self-service automation for developers. Jenkins is a self-contained, open source automation server which can be used to automate all sorts of tasks such as building, testing, and deploying software. Jenkins can be installed through native system packages, Docker, or even run standalone by any machine with the Java Runtime Environment installed.
“The journey to the cloud is slow, risky and painful for most enterprises, as they struggle to move and manage rising piles of disparate data,” Delphix Vice-President of Product Management Jason Grauel said in a media advisory. “We’ve enhanced our DataOps platform to support the latest versions of AWS and offer a significant performance boost to these companies to make fast, secure cloud migration quick and painless.”
More product update details:
- New Veritas NetBackup support for SQL Server: Enterprises can now use Veritas NetBackup backups to sync SQL Server databases using the Delphix platform. This enhancement enables IT teams to use backup data in the development process to instaspeed time-to-market, increase quality, decrease security risk and lower storage costs.
- Support for the latest instances of AWS: The Delphix Dynamic Data Platform now works with the latest instances of AWS to enable greater speed for cloud migrations via faster provisioning, snapshotting, refresh, rewinds and bookmarks. These performance improvements will bring tangible benefits for faster software development and QA/Test cycles, specifically ones which are automated Dev/Test and QA workflows.
- Delphix + Jenkins for Greater Self-Service Automation: Delphix now integrates with Jenkins, allowing companies to incorporate data provisioning and control tasks into their development workflows. This combination will enable more self-service for containers and bookmarks, and can automate operations such as refresh, restore, reset, enable/disable, recover, undo, lock/unlock, as well as bookmark creation and sharing.
