Enterprises have gained new incentive to adopt the iPhone with the release of the first Oracle application on the iPhone, Oracle Business Indicators, which allows iPhone users to access a variety of business reports, such as financial trends, sales performance results or customer satisfaction surveys, stored on application servers back at headquarters.

The iPhone screen shots provided by Oracle show samples of the kind of data business users can access over the Internet. For example, one screen shows a graph displaying a company’s top 10 customers by profit. The other screens show a variety of business metrics and trend data managers can access while they are away from the office.

The screens are accessing data through OBIEE (Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition Plus) and Oracle Business Intelligence Applications, Fusion Edition. The iPhone application uses the Service Oriented Architecture features of OBIEE and Oracle Business Intelligence Web Services.

Oracle will also soon be releasing additional iPhone applications, including Oracle Approvals, that will provide three widgets for approving new hires, purchases and expenses. The hiring-approval process will enable a manager to compare a proposed salary with other offers that the company made for a similar position in a particular location or region, he said.
