Congratulations to CEO and co-founder Phil Soran and the Compellent data storage company for a sparklingly good quarterly report released Feb. 11.

Compellent makes intelligent, automated SANs (storage area networks) for enterprises that allow the user to deploy Fibre Channel or iSCSI — or a combination of both connectivity forms. Highlights of the report:

–Revenue of $27.0 million represented the company’s 13th consecutive quarterly increase. Revenue grew 60 percent from the fourth quarter of 2007 and 10 percent sequentially from the third quarter of 2008.

–End users numbered 1,278 at Dec. 31, 2008, compared with 740 at year-end 2007.

–Cash and investments totaled $100.3 million at Dec. 31, 2008, exceeding $100.0 million for the first time.

Compellent’s still relatively small but growing fast, as is obvious by the numbers. The downturn, at least at this point, hasn’t affected it.

Let’s hope this kind of success rubs off on lots of other people, too.
