Compellent’s annual C-Drive users’ conference took place last month in Minneapolis, Minn. [The Station was honored to moderate a panel discussion at the 2008 event.] Each year, Compellent polls attendees on everything ranging from unstructured data growth and virtualization to data recovery and efficiency.

Here are some of the results:

–51 percent of customers said files and unstructured data were the source of the fastest data growth in their storage environments, while 37 percent said that database and customer applications were growing most rapidly.

–When asked about replication usage, 68 percent of customers in attendance said they replicate data to a remote site.

–49 percent said they use Compellent replication technology, while only 18 percent are utilizing server-based replication in their disaster recovery plans.

–100 percent of Compellent customers are using thin provisioning.

–Because of the efficiency of automated tiered storage, 81 percent of upgrade orders are for affordable, high-capacity drives.

–72 percent of channel partners have used a Compellent customer reference to win a deal.

So there you have part of the Compellent story.
