There was no news Aug. 25 on whether Dell will respond with a second-round offer upping the ante even more in its bidding battle with Hewlett-Packard for scale-out storage maker 3PAR.

As you might already know, HP on Aug. 23 revealed that it is offering $1.6 billion, or $24 per share, for the 600-person storage company. Dell offered $1.15 billion ($18 per share) on Aug. 16. HP had made its original offer a few weeks ago.

People are undoubtedly staying up late in Round Rock, Texas, to figure out a new response.

Dell Corporate Affairs officer David Frink sent The Station a to-the-point note on Aug. 25: “We’re still not commenting at this point.”

Something’s going to pop soon, and when it does, The Station will be there to report and offer a little perspective.
