All you NetApp shops, take heed: PCIe device maker Fusion-io and your favorite storage company are working together to provide server-side flash and caching software products that will run on NetApp’s new Virtual Storage Tier.

The two companies are collaborating to produce low-latency, high-performance compatibility connectors between the Fusion ioMemory platform and NetApp’s Data ONTAP operating system. These will include such current items as NetApp Flash Cache, NetApp Flash Pool and Fusion-io caching software.

NetApp’s storage systems and software, which have now been on the market for 20 years, have a loyal following in both midmarket companies and large enterprises around the world. Fusion-io, a mere age 4, focuses on server-side application acceleration to increase ultra low-latency data performance in virtualization, cloud and big data environments.

Working together, the two companies think they can drive innovation in optimizing for better performance. You can bet they’ll do so.

These systems will become available later this year.
