No one has to tell you that business continuity in the Web-centric world — especially involving virtualized systems — is all-important. We’ve all heard the horror stories of companies shut down for only a couple of weeks by disasters or other events that fall by the wayside and never get back in the race again.

That’s where QuorumLabs comes in. On Feb. 24 the relatively new company introduced onQ 2.0, a new version of its business continuity package for SMBs. OnQ is alone in the market in that it brings together several cool features into an all-in-one appliance for maintaining control and instant recovery of virtual machines and their clones.

Everybody knows how hard it is to keep a handle on VMs, which can multiply as fast as ants around an unattended picnic lunch. OnQ keeps track of virtual machine clones of critical systems to give SMBs instant recovery if something crashes. It features capabilities such as point-in-time file-level recovery, more granular deduplication, enhanced platform support and multi-tenancy.

Other new enhancements in onQ 2.0 include zero-configuration, zero typing installation [no reboot required]; more incremental updates [snapshot intervals can now be set as low as 15 minutes]; improved integrated monitoring and alerts; and expanded platform support [now includes Windows 2003 server (32- and 64-bit x86) and Windows 2008 server (32- and 64-bit x86)].

OnQ can be consumed as a managed service [$300/month, plus setup fees], as a single appliance [annual subscription solutions starting at $5,500 — perpetual license from $7,600]; or as a replicated dual appliance, with annual subscriptions starting under $8,000 [perpetual license from $10,200].
