Hewlett-Packard Co. is looking to bring utility computing capabilities to businesses running SAP AG applications on HP systems.

HPs Virtualized Infrastructure Solutions—or VIS—for mySAP Business Suite is a combination of hardware, software and services that enables users to dynamically allocate compute resources to respond to business demands. The package—introduced Tuesday at HPs ENSA@Work show in Copenhagen, Denmark—also offers a central monitoring capability of these compute components, including processors, storage and network resources.

The offering is part of HPs Adaptive Enterprise initiative, said Ron Eller, vice president and general manager of Enterprise Solution Alliances for HP, of Palo Alto, Calif.

“What this allows customers to do is more efficiently set up their environments,” Eller said.

SAP customers running HP hardware will be able to reduce their infrastructure costs, he said. Systems will be better utilized, and mission-critical applications will run more efficiently. About half of all SAP installations are deployed on HP systems, Eller said.

The package will offer adaptive computing environments—in which resources are pooled and shared—for NetWeaver, integrated management tools through HPs Systems Insight Manager and Rapid Deployment pack software, and a single view of SAP deployments across multiple operating systems, including Linux, HP-UX and Microsoft Corp.s Windows.

In addition, it will enable utility environments for businesses using HPs StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array and StorageWorks SAN (storage area networks) technology.
