High-level business intelligence analysis can be difficult, especially if it means staring at pages of text and comparing them with spreadsheet information. It would be a lot easier if one could view this kind of information using a three-dimensional graphical analysis tool, one that shows relationships among data elements that you might not have discerned before.

Anacubis Desktop—from Anacubis, part of the i2 Group—lets you do just that. One weakness in the previous version of Anacubis was that it could pull data only from predefined and often subscription-based information services, such as LexisNexis. With Anacubis 2.0, released last month, it is now possible to pull data directly from a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. To do this, I simply copied cells from my spreadsheet into the Windows clipboard and ran a wizard in Anacubis. I could then define and map the cells in my spreadsheet to get a visual map of my data.

However, although the spreadsheet functionality is useful, I would like to see the product open up more, with the ability to pull data from databases and from any Web application.

Anacubis Desktop is priced at $1,950. For more, visit www. anacubis.com.
