AskSam Web Publisher 4.0 is a useful companion to the AskSam 4.0 database, letting you make the database searchable in any browser.

The well-respected free-form database software has for more than 15 years helped those who need to store and organize data that does not bend easily to a rigid structure. These users often are not IT managers but researchers, journalists and librarians who need to manage a lot of information.

Among institutional users are Westinghouse, The New York Times and the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Due later this month, AskSam Web Publisher 4.0 runs on any CGI-compliant server and requires a onetime licensing fee of $1,495. New features enable users to define multiple views of search results, to save Web-based form entries back into the AskSam database and to configure HTML tools that ensure a served page closely resembles the original database entry.

In answer to my query, AskSam officials told me that tables are a work in progress, and PDFs, while indicated, are not displayed.
