Some predict that Medicare will run out of money by 2019, but a recent report from the Medicare Trustees argues that putting in place electronic-health technology is one of the reforms that could help to keep the retirement medical system functioning.
Electronic prescriptions and disease management systems that integrate information on patient care from a variety of sources are among the recommended reforms. Another possible implementation is to issue daily reminders to patients for necessary medical care and testing procedures.
Already, the Department of Health and Human Services has awarded several grants for testing various technologies among physicians.
