Sybase announced a new release of its database replication product armed with functionality designed to reduce latency when moving data between enterprises data stores.

In Replication Server 15.5, Sybase uses its high volume adaptive replication technology to reduce the time it takes to replicate large data volumes by analyzing rapidly changing data and only delivering final outcomes. The result is data reduction as well as better performance compared to the continuous replication mode, Amit Satoor, senior group product manager at Sybase, told eWEEK.

“Instead of sending every logged operation, HVAR removes all the intermediate operations and sends only the final states of a replicated transaction,” he said. “Depending on the application, this generally means a much smaller amount of data is processed and much higher throughput.”

Sybase Replication Server also introduces the Real-Time Loading Edition for rapid loading of transactional data from Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE) into Sybase IQ analytics server, a move Satoor said establishes “a true operational data store for business intelligence.”

“The Replication Server – Real-Time Loading Edition transforms nightly batch loads to continuous loads throughout the day, delivering ASE operational system changes to your Sybase IQ analytics server within minutes of the source transaction change,” he said.

According to Sybase, the release also enables Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE) on-disk databases to be replicated to ASE in-memory databases.

The latest edition of the product was announced Aug. 10 during Sybase’s annual TechWave user conference, going on in Washington, DC. The user conference comes less than a month after SAP closed on its acquisition of the company in late July.
