Orbitz Takeoff Cleared

Orbitz, the travel exchange proposed by most major airlines, is gathering velocity. The Department of Transportation says it will not try to block the service. Orbitz already has signed up three major hotel partners, Hyatt Hotels & Resorts, Marriott International and Wyndham International.

Online Buying Stalled

Businesses stilll have big plans to incorportate the Internet into their suppy chain operations, but little progress has been made, a survey by the National Association of Purchasing Management and Forrester Research has found. The report, which surveyed purchasing managers at 407 companies, found that only 6.3 percent are making direct purchases of supplies for products being manufactured.

CAs World Rocks

Computer Associates International surprised investors by releasing preliminary results for its fiscal fourth quarter that were much stronger than expected. The software provider says it expects to post earnings of 47 cents per share, excluding special and one-time charges, up from 34 cents per share, on revenue of $1.44 billion. CA says business “rocked around the world” in the quarter.
