Quest Software has had its stake in the ground for more than two decades by serving as home base for a lot of veteran database developers around the world, providing tools and services that assist them with handling installation, app development and continuing maintenance on complicated Oracle DB and Microsoft SQL environments.

During the last couple of years, however, it also has pivoted to new markets with software-as-a-service (SaaS)-based deployments. Industry observers have pointed out that the company is a bit late to the party, but the fact remains that there is still a lot of business out there that is data center-based and needs Quest’s older, reliable tools to keep things running.

But two years after it was sold by Dell after four years of ownership to two private equity companies for a shade more than $2 billion, the Aliso Viejo-Calif.-based company kept the line moving July 16 with the launch of Quest On Demand Migration. This is the newest addition to the company’s Microsoft Azure-hosted software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform, Quest On Demand.

How It Automates Office 365 Functions

Quest On Demand Migration provides Microsoft Office 365 tenant-to-tenant migration of accounts, email and OneDrive; helps IT teams with merging and consolidating of Office 365 tenants; and accelerates Office 365 consolidation projects with discovery, assessment and scheduling automation, along with real-time monitoring capabilities.

Automation of all of these features is valuable for saving time and effort for enterprise employees.

The Quest On Demand platform also offers On Demand Recovery for backup and recovery of Office 365 and Azure Active Directory users, groups, attributes and group membership, as well as technical previews for “soon to be released” solutions.

Key features/benefits of On Demand Migration include:

  • Pre-Migration Discovery and Assessment allows IT teams to determine which accounts need to be migrated in source environments and proactively identify and match all source and target users to eliminate duplications.
  • Project Management Dashboard provides real-time monitoring to plan, stage and schedule the migration. A completely automated approach saves the business money and eliminates manual tasks by making it simple to migrate user groups in batches or individually. Users can troubleshoot and fix potential problem areas even before the migration begins and monitor migration project progress dynamically.
  • Day one Co-existence guarantees that free/busy information is available to both source and target users throughout the migration. Directory information is copied and forwarding addresses set automatically to ensure no impact to communication as users are migrated.
  • Complete Tenant-to-Tenant Migration allows users to consolidate two separate Office 365 tenants in one, regardless of size.

Quest said its On Demand Migration is available now with a flexible pricing model. For more information, go here.
