Sun Microsystems Inc. and KPMG Consulting announced this week the expansion of their Global Solutions Alliance to help customers lower the implementation costs of deploying enterprise applications.

Under the amended terms of the alliance deal, Sun, of Palo Alto, Calif., and KPMG, of McLean, Va., will deliver pre-configured ERP (enterprise resource planning) and managed service software for to companies in the manufacturing, fi-nancial services and distribution industries.

KPMGs Rapid Return on Investment (R2iSM) Express is designed for six-to-12 week implementations and will be the core of the new products developed.

The duo will also create a global Sun storage practice within KPMG, to focus specifically on creating vertical and horizontal-oriented software based on Suns StorEdge Complete Storage Solutions, according to officials.

New packages will feature the Sun Open Net Environment (Sun ONE) platform and Sun servers.

Sun and KPMG have collaborated for the past six years, providing software to customers in the consumer and in-dustrial markets, public services, communications, high tech and financial services industries.
