The download is mostly a set of updated libraries, and its deployment and administration tools are crude—Id advise using a third-party option such as Systinets free WASP 4.0 Web services development tools as a base, then adding individual Developer Pack components as desired. (see Systinets WASP 4.0 Tops in Web Services.)

The developer pack includes the Java XML Pack Summer 02 release (which provides Java APIs for SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) and SOAP directory functions); JSP (JavaServer Pages) Standard Tag Library 1.0 (a set of JSP extensions likely to be part of the next version of JSP); an early version of Tomcat 4.1; a UDDI (Universal Description, Discovery and Integration) 2.0 server; and basic graphical and command-line tools to compile and deploy Web services to Tomcat.

The developer pack can be downloaded from java.sun.com/webservices/webservicespack.html.
