WiredRed Software Corp. announced Wednesday the availability of a Java client for its e/pop enterprise instant messaging application.

The new client, e/pop Java Client, works with WiredReds e/pop Enterprise Server and will allow customers to extend instant messaging across multiple desktop platforms and to users outside the organization, since its accessible via a Web browser.

Yet it still supports Secure Socket Layer security, network directory integration and private routing, WiredRed officials, in San Diego, said.

The Java Client can be used to add IM capabilities to existing enterprise portals and extranets, officials said.

“Were envisioning several types of customers using [e/pop Java Client],” said WiredRed CEO Allen Drennan, “internal users on other platforms like Macintosh and Solaris, users who are traveling and users who have a relationship with the company, but dont work there.”

Users will be able to set their desired level of security on the server, Drennan said.

E/pop Java Client is priced at $35 per user. Drennan said it will be targeted mainly towards midsize companies.
