AT&T Corp. appointed Betsy Bernard president-elect today, giving her particular responsibility for the companys business divisions, which hold the most promise for revenue growth. Bernard will become president of AT&T once it completes the spin-off of its broadband unit.

The N.Y.-based company is in the process of an extensive reorganization, centered around the spin-off of AT&T Broadband, which will be merged with Comcast Inc. When the merger is complete, CEO Michael Armstrong will leave AT&T to become chairman of AT&T Comcast. At that point David Dorman, who is president today, will take over as chairman and CEO of AT&T.

Bernard, who has been with the company for less than a year and a half, will be in charge of AT&T Business, AT&T Labs, the network service group and international ventures, the company announced Tuesday.

“Betsy brings terrific experience to her new position, including 23 years in business services and more than 25 years in telecommunications,” Dorman said in a press release. “Most recently, during her time with AT&T Consumer, she led the transformation of that business and continues to deliver the best margins in the industry.”
