Business process management software developer Metastorm announced Wednesday its intent to merge with CommerceQuest Inc., which also provides BPM software, along with integration capabilities.

The terms of the deal are undisclosed.

The combination of the two companies makes sense in that Metastorm Inc.s software allows users to model, automate and manage business processes that require human interaction—part of a process that needs to be approved by a manager, for instance, before the next stage in the process can be enacted.

CommerceQuests software, on the other hand, takes a more process-driven service-oriented integration approach.

“The combination of Metastorms human-based BPM offerings and CommerceQuests process-driven, service-oriented integration capabilities will provide customers with a complete solution for all process management challenges,” said Mike Forster, CommerceQuests CEO, in a statement.

“The new, expanded Metastorm becomes the first company to offer organizations a single solution to meet all their enterprise-wide BPM needs.”

The combination of the two companies will create a company with 1,200 customers in 41 countries.

Forster will be elected to Metastorms Board of Directors.

Bob Farrell, Metastorms current president and CEO, will continue in that capacity.
