Today’s topics include Cisco rolling out new Webex Edge services to enterprise data centers, and Newegg admitting that it is the latest data breach victim of Magecart malware.

Cisco Systems introduced new edge Webex services that can be run in a customer’s own data center, more hardware for corporate conference rooms, headsets for its Webex and Jabber unified communications applications, and a new meeting scheduler for Webex.

These new offerings are part of larger efforts to streamline and enhance the usability of Cisco’s collaboration technology.

The new Webex Edge brings capabilities into the enterprise data center through three services: Webex Edge Audio, Webex Edge Connect and Webex Edge Video Mesh.

The goal is to drive savings on public switched telephone network and bandwidth while improving the quality of audio, video and content during meetings.

Volexity Threat Research, working in collaboration with RiskIQ, identified an attack from hacking group Magecart on online computer parts retailer Newegg, which admitted on Sept. 19 that it was breached. According to the two research groups, Newegg may have been breached for over a month, with attacks beginning on approximately Aug. 14.

The malicious code was removed from the Newegg site on Sept. 18. Magecart has been implicated in multiple high-profile attacks in recent months, including ones on British Airways on Sept. 7 and Ticketmaster on June 27.

Volexity reported that the Magecart attackers were able to inject a few lines of malicious JavaScript code onto a webpage shown to consumers during the Newegg checkout process. Newegg has not publicly stated the number of impacted customers, but has sent out a letter to customers, noting that it will publish a complete set of details.
