Hewlett-Packard Co. is adding to its utility computing strategy by buying management software vendors Consera Software Inc. and Novadigm Inc.

Officials with HP, of Palo Alto, Calif., said on Wednesday that the software the two companies make will add to HPs OpenView software offerings.

“Novadigm and Consera will add powerful automation software to HP OpenView, enabling customers to flex IT with business demands,” Nova Denzel, senior vice president of HPs Adaptive Enterprise initiative, said in a prepared release. “Together, they put repetitive, error-prone IT management tasks on cruise control and free up IT time to focus on innovation.”

No financial details of the deals, which were announced today, were released.

Novadigm, of Mahwah, N.J., makes software designed to automate change and configuration management, according to HP. Consera, of Bellevue, Wash., makes service-modeling software that enables users to create an adaptable IT environment.

The two will work well together, with Novadigms products being able to use the models created by Conseras software, HP officials said.

The acquisitions, which HP officials hope will close within three to four months, continue the companys strategy of buying vendors to add to its overall management software offering and to complement ongoing partnerships with companies such as Altiris Inc.

In September 2003, HP bought Talking Blocks and Baltimore Technologies plc.s Select Access business to increase its Web services and identity management offerings. Two months later, HP bought Persist Technologies Inc. for information lifecycle management.
