IBM announced Tuesday the acquisition of Trigo Technologies Inc. for an undisclosed amount of money, a move that will expand the companys middleware offerings.

Trigo makes software that helps companies integrate and centrally manage product information. The software also matches product-related information with a function term—pricing, for example—and then synchronizes that information with internal and external systems, officials said.

IBM, of Somers, N.Y., will incorporate Trigos technology into its WebSphere family of integration products. The software can be used with WebSphere Commerce applications for multimedia content that is managed by DB2 Content Manager. At the same time, Trigos software can be used in conjunction with WebSphere Portal to help support B2B communication and data synchronization efforts.

Trigo, a Brisbane, Calif.-based company with 150 employees, has an existing Business Partner relationship with IBM.

The companies expect the deal to close, given the proper approval, next quarter.
