At its user conference in Washington D.C., today, Manugistics Group Inc. announced a new architecture that helps companies break down complex planning processes into more manageable distributed processes.

Manugistics SWARM architecture enables the synchronization of its supply chain management software and underlying hardware. By doing that, planning and optimization processes can be distributed across hardware architectures for simultaneous execution across machines. What this does is speed up processing and provides for better resource allocation and load balancing, officials said.

The capability was developed to speed processes—optimization replenishment plans across a retail network, for example—and to keep demand and supply chains moving quickly, according to Doug Denlinger, Manugistics senior vice president of Engineering and Technology Solutions.

“Organizations can now keep demand and supply chains moving swiftly and accurately as todays on-demand economy requires by collaborating and responding at speeds that were previously unimaginable,” Denlinger said in a statement.
