Today’s topics include Microsoft rolling out SharePoint Server 2019 with ease of use features, and Dell releasing three new rugged enterprise notebooks.

Microsoft’s SharePoint Server 2019 is now generally available with a wide range of improvements from the server product introduced at Microsoft Ignite earlier in 2018.

Built on the same core platform as SharePoint Server 2016, the 2019 version “represents a whole new generation of SharePoint, one born in the cloud, and representative of the ease of use [Microsoft] delivered in SharePoint Online,” according to Bill Baer, a Microsoft senior product marketing manager. The redesign of the product adds new features for users, while keeping them intuitive and familiar.

Among the improvements are team sites that are more collaborative and that connect with Office 365 Groups, which allow simpler permissions models for content viewing. The redesigned home pages also get new sections for things like news, quick links, site activity and a document library, while the old versions included announcements, calendars and links.

Dell has introduced three new rugged notebooks aimed at enterprise workers in such industries as oil and gas, manufacturing, emergency services and warehousing, who need notebooks that can withstand tough environmental and physical conditions, including water, dirt, drops and drastic temperature changes.

The Latitude 7424 Rugged Extreme starts at $3,499, the Latitude 5424 Rugged starts at $1,499 and the Latitude 5420 Rugged starts at $1,399 and is essentially a thinner and lighter version of the 5424 Rugged machines for users who need a more compact device.

All three models can be configured with Microsoft Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, Microsoft Windows 10 Pro or, only for 6th generation processors, with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.
