MPC Computers, formerly Micron PC, announced Tuesday that it had acquired the PC division of Omni Tech Corp., giving MPC an entrance into a second niche, the education market.
MPC, which has traditionally concentrated on its customers in the U.S. federal and state governments, acquired the End User Division of Omni Tech, a privately held firm in Pewaukee, Wis. The deal has been approved and is effective immediately.
Omni Tech sells its own line of desktop PCs, but resells notebooks and servers from third-party manufacturers. MPC has no plans to immediately terminate Omni Techs desktop line, but over a years time MPC will likely supplement and eventually replace them with Microns own best-of-breed solutions, said MPC spokeswoman Elissa Reid.
Omni Tech has traditionally sold its products to customers in the education field, specifically in the Midwest, Reid said. “Were about a third of their size in the education business, so this gives us another niche,” she said.
“Our customers will be well served by Omni Techs End User division becoming a part of MPC,” Terry Anderson, chief executive of Omni Tech Corporation, said in a statement. “Its service-centric model will guarantee a smooth transition, and their larger size will deliver better value and price-performance.”
Omni Tech will fold its business into MPCs business units over the next sixty days, the companies said.
