Following up on increased marketing and development spending for its On Demand hosted services business, Oracle on Wednesday announced it has hired a new executive to lead the On Demand charge.

Juergen Rottler, Oracle Corp.s new executive vice president of its On Demand business, comes from Hewlett-Packard Co., where he held the position of senior vice president of the companys public sector, health and education business.

Rottler will join company presidents Chuck Phillips and Safra Catz in reporting directly to Larry Ellison, Oracles CEO, in Redwood Shores, Calif.

Rottler said in a statement that he looks forward to growing the On Demand business and to “making it as strategic to our customers as Oracles software business.” Rottler also will serve as the executive sponsor for Oracles alliance with Palo Alto, Calif.-based HP.

Oracles On Demand service began more than four years ago under the moniker Oracle Business Online. A year later it morphed into Oracle Outsourcing and remained under that name until about six months ago, when Oracle announced its On Demand offering.

Oracle on Monday announced a new program that enables ISVs to capitalize on the On Demand hosted services.

The program enables the potentially thousands of small and midsized vendors that develop applications around Oracles E-Business Suite to utilize Oracles database and application server infrastructure to provide 24/7 support to their customers. The ISVs still host their own applications for customers.
