Targeting homeland security, PeopleSoft Inc. on Tuesday announced at its Connect 2002 user conference in New Orleans, two new software modules aimed at its higher education and public sector install base.

PeopleSoft PASS SEVIS [Patriot Act Student and Exchange Visitor Information System Solution] will help colleges and universities comply with the federal mandate to track and report information regarding the status of foreign students in the United States.

The Immigration and Naturalization Service launched SEVIS to address the approximately 200,000 foreign students unaccounted for in the United States. Beginning in January of 2003, higher education institutions must track numerous criteria pertaining to a foreign students status. Any changes to a students status must be regularly reported to the INS.

PASS will help colleges and universities submit the information to the INS in real time, officials said.

PeopleSofts Guardian solution is a suite of applications that enables government agencies and the first responder community to prepare for and react to emergency situations in real time.

Guardian includes software for recruitment, skills assessment and deployment of the nations first responders.

The Guardian Command Center and First Responder consoles will provide a 360-degree view of personnel information and skills. At the same time, the Command Center Console will manage the information and communication needs of emergency command centers—managing emergency alerts, tracking resources and assessing personnel skills.

PASS and Guardian are part of an overall homeland security initiative underway at PeopleSoft, based in Pleasanton, Calif.

PASS will be available in the fourth quarter. The Guardian Command Center and First Responder Consoles will be available in the first quarter, 2003.
