In a move first reported on by eWEEK July 23, IT solution provider Sparxent July 28 confirmed that it has acquired Cemaphore for an undisclosed sum.

Cemaphore, a partner of messaging rivals Google and Microsoft, makes software suites that help businesses migrate e-mail, calendar and contact information from Microsoft Exchange e-mail servers to Google Apps, and vice versa.

E-mail migration is a valuable tool at a time when companies are increasingly looking to move their mail systems from traditional on-premises applications, such as Microsoft Outlook, to SAAS (software-as-a-service) solutions in the Internet cloud, such as Google’s Gmail.

Cemaphore’s software has been deployed on more than 100,000 seats for customers that span many business verticals, including banking, financial services, legal and health care.

Sparxent, which sells IT systems to medium-size companies, will offer Cemaphore’s MailShadow products to companies that require continuous replication while migrating data between disparate e-mail systems, including Microsoft, Google, AOL and Yahoo.

The deal marks the fourth acquisition for Sparxent since it was formed in August 2008.
