Vignette Corp. will announce Wednesday the division of its Content Suite V6 into standard and enterprise editions.

The move is designed to make it easier for department-level customers to adopt the technology, Vignette officials said. The new Standard Edition will start at a six-processor license and will not include several V6 features such as integrated search, prebuilt multisite support and foreign language support. It will also have fewer out-of-the-box reporting capabilities.

But the price, starting at $200,000, is about half what the Enterprise Edition—and what V6 today—typically costs. Enterprise Edition will start at a 14-processor license.

“Were targeting customers who need a very simple solution to meet the needs of a particular task,” said Santi Pierini, vice president of product strategy at Vignette, in Austin, Texas.

Pierini said the new packaging of V6 is more closely aligned with Vignettes sales strategy.

“The majority of our new customers are at the department level, but the majority of our revenues come from existing customers who expand their use of our technology,” he said.

Pierini said Vignette has offered flexible pricing and a la carte features to customers before based on their individual needs, but the new packaging will serve to make that more known to customers and increase department-level adoption of V6, he said.
