Oracle announced June 1 its plans to acquire supply chain management software developer Demantra. The terms of the deal are undisclosed.

Demantra offers software for demand management, sales and operations planning and trade promotion planning and optimization.

Oracle plans to combine the Demantra suite of software with its own burgeoning stable of supply chain software from its E-Business Suite.

Oracle also has supply chain code from its PeopleSoft and J.D. Edwards acquisitions late in 2004.

Oracle is in the process of rewriting its software to create Fusion, a sort of super set of software based on the E-Business Suite framework that pulls in the “best of” functionality from PeopleSoft, JD Edwards, Seibel Systems and possibly other vertical applications Oracle has acquired.

Its not clear yet where Demantra will fit into the Fusion mix—the first Fusion suite is expected around 2008—but its clear its part of the companys future plans to enable services-based processes.

“Oracle and Demantras complementary products will deliver information-rich, adaptive business processes to enable an effective, demand driven supply chain,” said Rick Jewell, Oracle senior vice president of application development, in a statement.

“We are giving customers access to proven, best-in-class demand and supply chain capabilities, combined with comprehensive ERP applications and technology infrastructure.”
