D-Link Systems cant stop the rain, but its new wireless 802.11g access point can withstand rain, snow, sleet and lightning.
Built for the outdoors, the AirPremier DWL-2700AP is waterproof and includes a built-in heater that keeps the device at 75 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit.
The device supports AP-to-AP bridging and point-to-multipoint bridging for connecting multiple networks. It can act as a repeater to extend the wireless network range. In addition, it supports the IEEE 802.3af standard for power over Ethernet, which means the device is powered via Ethernet cables, eliminating the need for an outdoor power source.
Security features include built-in support for the Wi-Fi Protected Access security protocol, AES encryption and the 802.11I, or WPA2, security standard.
The $1,499 unit is due this month.
