One of the first vendors to release a Tablet PC, Acer America is again a front-runner with its second-generation TravelMate C110—the first Tablet PC to include Intels Centrino mobile technology.

The C110 (priced starting at $1,899) was released last month. The unit I tested was equipped with an Intel 900MHz Pentium M ultra-low-voltage processor. It was also armed with 512MB of DDR RAM and a 40GB hard drive.

The C110 comes preloaded with Microsofts Windows XP Tablet PC Edition operating system and weighs 3.2 pounds without external drives.

The tablet features a 10.4-inch XGA display. As with its predecessor, the C100, the C110 performs as a Tablet PC or as a notebook with a flip of the screen.

The C110 has built-in wireless 802.11b and Bluetooth support, two USB 2.0 ports, an IEEE 1394 interface, a 10/100M-bps LAN connection, and a 56K-bps modem. An external CD-ROM or combo drive can be attached via the IEEE 1394 interface.

As with most tiny notebooks, I found the keyboard on the C110 too small for fast touch-typing. However, some of the slower typists in the Labs had less trouble using it. The casing has a flimsy feel; users should be careful when handling the unit.
