Expected changes Midsize companies that need high-speed symmetric service have not warmed up to DSL technology as an access option, but a company based in San Jose, Calif., said it expects that to change.

Pledging speed Symmetricom Inc., a broadband access equipment maker, this week launched two integrated access devices based on the recently ITU-approved standard, G.shdsl. Symmetricoms new products promise Ethernet speed over existing copper telephone wires.

Integration Symmetricom said it expects the new standard will spur demand for digital subscriber line among midsize businesses. The companys GoWide Enterprise 15M-bps device and GoWide IP 9.2M-bps device are targeted at companies looking for a happy medium between T-1 and fiber lines. The Enterprise 15M-bps product integrates voice and data traffic.

Pricing The GoWide 15M-bps device costs between $5,000 and $10,000 and the IP 9.2 between $2,000 and $3,000.
