The monochrome version of the Sidekick PDA/phone combo (“PDAs for Every Budget,” May 6) is an impressive communicator and organizer. The enhanced, color version of the T-Mobile Sidekick ($300 street) retains the attractive features of its predecessor and adds significant improvements. Not merely a very good choice for early adopters, the Sidekick is a strong contender for business users who want an easy-to-use PDA/ phone that synchronizes with a personal Web portal.

At 7 ounces and 2.5 by 4.8 by 1.3 inches (HWD), the Sidekick is slightly larger and heavier than the previous version. Its 65,000-color display has good visibility indoors and out, and the internal lithium ion battery is rated for 3.5 hours talk time and 60 hours standby.

We love the backlit swivel screen, backlit thumbable keyboard, Danger Hiptop OS, and the scroll wheel for easy navigation. Improvements over the older model include a faster ARM7 processor (48 MHz), enhanced graphics, twice the memory (32MB), and improved image-capture quality (320-by-240 resolution) using the optional camera ($40).
