Janam Technologies has unveiled its latest XG3-ER rugged handheld business computer, which includes a special barcode reader that lets business and industrial users read barcodes from as far as 50 feet away.

Equipped with an Intermec EX25 near/far imager and auto-focusing, the XG3-ER can read virtually any kind of 1D and 2D barcode, as well as damaged or obscured barcodes, according to Janam.

The pistol-grip-mounted device features a 1GHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor, 512MB of RAM, 1GB of onboard storage, a 3.5-inch color TFT VGA top-mounted touchscreen display, an integrated keyboard, a 5200mAh hot-swappable Li-ion battery and 802.11 WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities. The 22-ounce XG3-ER, which is designed for manufacturing, transportation and logistics, and warehouse uses, is built with rugged construction that can survive multiple six-foot drops to concrete and is sealed to IP65 standards for use in wet and dirty environments. Pricing was not announced.

“The extended-range XG3-ER combines all the winning features found in Janam’s recently introduced XG3 gun-shaped mobile computer with the industry’s only auto-focusing imaging technology that can read near and far field,” Harry B. Lerner, the CEO of Janam, said in a statement. “As organizations focus on enhancing supply chain efficiencies and lowering costs, the XG3-ER delivers the latest technological advancements needed to help businesses of any size enhance the efficiency of their supply chain and ultimately lower operational expenditures.”

Weighing 22 ounces with its battery, the XG3-ER computer is 7.4 inches high, 3.1 inches wide and 8.3 inches long, making it easy to hold and carry for employees as they use it in their workplaces.

The XG3-ER is built with rugged construction that can survive multiple six-foot drops on concrete, while also being sealed to IP65 standards for use in wet and dirty environments. It is dust and dirt resistant and can be used in temperatures from -4 degrees to 140 degrees F.

In July, Janam released its XM2-RFID UHF handheld, which lists at $2,295 and reads ISO18000-63, EPC Global Class 1 Gen 2 tags. The XM2-RFID UHF fits in the palm of the hand, weighs 13 ounces and can complete more than 40,000 tag reads on one battery charge. It has a 3.2-inch color display, runs on Microsoft’s Windows Embedded Handheld 6.5 operating system and is ruggedized to withstand drops from 4 feet. It is sealed to IP64 standards against water, dust, dirt and other contaminants in challenging environments.

Janam’s original XG3 handheld computer was released in May and includes a 3.5-inch VGA TFT display, a 1GHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor, 512MB of RAM and a choice of keypad designs. The original XG3 ruggedized mobile computer lists for $1,995.
