After several months searching for a new marketing head of its wireless and mobile devices division, Microsoft has hired Suzan DelBene as vice president of marketing for its wireless phone and handheld-organizer software division.

DelBene has already done time at Microsoft. She spent nearly a decade at the company in various executive positions, including a stint as a marketing and business development manager in the Windows and Internet Explorer groups. In 1998, she moved to Drugstore.com to take a vice president position during the Internet frenzy. Recently, DelBene was the CEO of the XML-focused Nimble Technology firm in Seattle. Nimble was acquired by Actuate last year.

Microsoft watchers will no doubt be curious to see what presence DelBene has at the forthcoming Microsoft Mobile Developer Conference 2004 in San Francisco, March 23 to 27.

DelBene replaces Juha Christensen, who quit in November as vice president of the mobile devices division and later took a job at Macromedia as president of the companys mobile and devices group. In his three years at Microsoft, Christensen oversaw several introductions including last falls debut of the Windows Mobile Smartphones. Before Microsoft, Christensens work included co-founding Symbian.
