Handspring Inc. on Monday announced version 2.0 of its wireless Web browser, which runs on wireless devices using Palm Inc.s operating system.

Blazer 2.0 will be included in Handsprings upcoming Treo family of wireless devices as well as in upcoming phones from Sprint PCS, which licenses the browser, according to officials at Handspring in Mountain View, Calif.

New features in Blazer 2.0 include the ability to bookmark 100 sites as well as enhanced se-curity features.

In addition to supporting 128-bit Secure Socket Layer encryption, Blazer supports proxy and HTTP authentication. The combination will allow user to make more secure wireless Web transac-tions such as purchases and online banking transactions.

Blazer 2.0 also includes the ability to select the Web page that first appears when the browser is launched.

Blazer 2.0 is available now for $19.95 on www.handango.com and later today on www.palmgear.com.

Both Handango and PalmGear will e-mail their Blazer 1.1 customers instructions on downloading a free upgrade to Blazer 2.0.
