Today’s topics include Sony launching its Xperia XZ2 Premium smartphone; and Microsoft, RSA and Facebook among 33 tech companies signing the Cybersecurity Tech Accord.

Less than a week after starting to take preorders for its Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact smartphones, Sony has launched the Xperia XZ2 Premium. The premium handset boasts a larger screen and faster processor than its predecessor.

Not only does it include a 5.8-inch 4K HDR display, 6GB of memory and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, it also features a fingerprint sensor and 64GB of internal storage. It will run on Android 8.0 Oreo. For durability, both sides of the glass and metal phone are covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

The Xperia XZ2 Premium is slated to be available globally this summer, but pricing has not yet been announced.

At the 2018 RSA Conference, Microsoft joined 33 other IT companies including Facebook and RSA in signing the Cybersecurity Tech Accord. The accord pledges to protect users from cyber-attacks, which, according to Microsoft President and Chief Legal Officer Brad Smith, are increasingly being staged by criminal organizations and nation-states.

Participating organizations will adhere to four principles, the first of which calls for improved collaboration and coordination on information involving security threats. The second principle is to oppose government-backed efforts to launch cyber-attacks on “innocent targets and enterprises.”

Third is to protect all their users and customers by delivering products and services that prioritize security. Finally, the organizations plan to furnish users, developers and enterprises with the information and tools they need to protect themselves against evolving threats.
