Relicore Inc. continues to expand the functionality of its Clarity automated application configuration management tool by adding application process discovery capabilities.
The AppSense technology in Clarity 3.5 can automatically discover all running processes on an application server and create a comprehensive, server-to-server dependency map.
Clarity, which can track configuration changes in real time, keeps a repository of configuration data that allows users to manage changes and software release updates, as well as problems with application availability or performance.
The agent-based change and configuration tracking helped users at JP Morgan Chase & Co. speed problem resolution on new production servers, according to Steve Goulas, a vice president in the companys technology group, in Lowell, Mass.
“We had an issue with a primary server failing over to a secondary server where the second server wouldnt work,” Goulas said. “We found that a security certificate was never installed on the other application server. Clarity found that within the first 15 minutes after we turned the product on.”
AppSense, which also tracks application behavior, can model and discover homegrown applications, as well as a growing number of platforms and database systems.
In addition, Relicore, of Burlington, Mass., added a Snapshot capability that can capture an image of an applications behavior and store it in the database to create a static reference copy of an application.
The maturing tool also gained the ability to interrogate configuration data in an XML file at a granular level. Additional platforms it can track now include Windows Server 2003, Solaris 2.9, Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS 3 and DB2. Clarity 3.5 is due this fall.
