Savvis is partnering with Cisco Systems as it expands its private cloud platform.
Savvis will rely on Cisco’s UCS (Unified Computing System) all-in-one solution as the foundation of its Symphony platform, which will be a multitiered virtual private data center aimed at enterprises.
The company also will tap Cisco’s Unified Delivery Service, which enables users to pool data center resources and apply them to any services. In addition, it can connect islands of data centers to further increase available resources.
The two companies also are collaborating on managed infrastructure solutions for private clouds, including the development of a reference architecture businesses can use with Savvis’ Symphony platform, formerly called “Project Spirit.”
Savvis’ private cloud operation will draw on the company’s 28 data centers, which are spread out across the world. Cisco’s UCS, introduced in March, offers a single solution that encompasses server, storage, networking and management software.
Savvis officials, pointing out that their solution has been tested and validated in Cisco labs, said they hope to roll out their offering quickly.
“The market for IT infrastructure is undergoing profound change as virtualization and new technologies impact cost strategies and alignment with the business,” Savvis CEO Phil Koen said in a statement Dec. 7. “Enterprises want all the benefits of cloud computing, but acquiring, integrating and managing the new technologies is not for everyone.”
