Unisys Corp., buoyed by an 11 percent jump in its services business and growth in server sales, on Wednesday reported that revenues increased 9 percent in the third quarter.

However, income dipped slightly, to $56.2 million, over the same period last year, when it came in at $59 million. Revenue for the three weeks ended Sept. 30 was $1.45 billion, up from $1.33 billion in the third quarter 2002.

“In what is typically a seasonally weak quarter for the technology industry, we met our financial expectations by staying focused and continuing to execute our value-added strategy,” Chairman and CEO Larry Weinbach said in a prepared statement.

While services saw a double-digit revenue jump, the Blue Bell, Pa., companys technology segment increased 3 percent. Unisys officials attributed much of that rise to growth in sales of its ClearPath mainframes and 50 percent jump in sales of its ES7000 Intel Corp.-based servers.

Weinbach said he expects to wrap up the year with overall mid-single-digit revenue growth.

“While the global environment remains challenging, we are steadily enhancing the Unisys reputation in key growth areas, such as business-process outsourcing; managed services; security; and high-end, Intel-based servers,” he said.
