Search startup Intellext last week launched a free version of its Watson search tool.

Intellext says its search sidebar tool is different from other tools, such as Google Desktops Sidebar, because Watson automatically searches for and generates information specifically relevant to the current document a user is working on.

The free version does not include the same search source customization features as Watsons tool aimed for business users. Also, unlike the pay version, the free version includes advertisements.

Geared for consumers, the free tool includes a shopping feature that automatically displays data such as product reviews, blog entries, news and price deals related to what a user is looking at online. Intellext inked a partnership with Amazon and eBay to present relevant search results from those sites in the shopping tab of the Watson sidebar.

The free version of Watson is available for download at Intellext.com.
