Even if your client has a fully developed and continually tested disaster plan, youve got to take into account the capabilities of the organizations that they partner with for infrastructure services. We were talking with a unified-messaging provider the other day. They talked a great game plan, with replicated data sites in the United States, Europe and Asia. The only problem was that they are so busy trying to get the service up and get customers, that theyve not addressed the disaster-recovery problem—when and how to switch the IP addresses to the replicated site.

The same holds true for co-location facilities. While firms like AT&T, Exodus and Level 3 have their own elaborate plans for surviving fires, floods and power failures at their co-location sites, what plans are in place if the entire facility is taken out? What contingency plan is in place to transfer hosting operations to a different site? Opportunity awaits you here.
