Hewlett-Packard Co. is offering a complete line of virtual machine capabilities from VMware Inc. in its line of Intel-based hardware, software and services.

HP, of Palo Alto, Calif., already had offered VMwares ESX Server and GSX Server virtual machine technology in more than a dozen of its ProLiant servers, which enabled users to consolidate multiple applications and operating systems on the same server.

HP also plans to have its ProLiant BL20p and BL40p blade servers certified for VMware technology by the end of June.

In an agreement announced Wednesday, HP extended its partnership with VMware to give customers a single place for VMware solutions on HP products, said Ron Eller, vice president of the solutions division for HPs Industry Standard Servers unit.

“Were now a one-stop shop for VMware capabilities, including support,” Eller said.

Users running ESX or GSX on HP products now only have to call HP to deal with any problems with the virtual machine software, he said.

The extended partnership is designed to help customers with server consolidation and workload management projects, said Diane Greene, president and CEO of VMware, also of Palo Alto. It also plays into HPs Adaptive Enterprise strategy for virtualizing resources within the data center.

VMware has partnerships with all the top Intel-based server vendors, Greene said.
