Hewlett-Packard on Wednesday introduced a new widescreen Presario notebook, catering to DVD-carrying business travelers.
The Compaq Presario Widescreen Notebook X1000 PC, available in June for an estimated U.S. street price of $1,299 after a $100 mail-in rebate, features a high-resolution 15.4-inch wide aspect ratio display that can produce images at up to WUXGA or 1,920 x 1,200 pixel resolutions.
The notebook is powered by the ATY Mobility Radeon 9200 graphics chip with 64 Mbytes of onboard memory, and a Pentium M processor with the option of speeds ranging from 1.3- to 1.6-GHz.
The X1000 notebook ships with an integrated 802.11b wireless networking card and an optional Bluetooth module; expansion options include a Secure Digital card slot and an IEEE 1394 connection. Three USB 2.0 slots are included. The X1000 integrates 10/100 Ethernet and a 56K modem and an eight-cell lithium-ion battery which can provide up to a total of 5 hours of battery life.
Additional options include:
- Hard drives of 40 GB, 60 GB or 80 GB and a high-performance (5,400 rpm) 60 GB drive
- Choice of optical drives, including 24x CD-ROM, 8x DVD, 24x CD-RW/DVD or DVD+RW
- Up to 2 GB DDR (266-MHz) system memory
