IBM on Wednesday acquired Canadian automation software vendor ThinkDynamics Inc. Officials would not disclose the financial terms of the deal, which has already been completed.
The move is a part of IBMs continuing effort to fill out its on-demand computing strategy. The automated systems management and provisioning technology acquired in the ThinkDynamics deal, dubbed “orchestrated provisioning” by IBM, should allow on-demand computing customers to respond more quickly to business requirements, said IBM officials in Armonk, N.Y. ThinkDynamics core platform, ThinkControl, includes policy-based elements to automate provisioning, service-level management and capacity.
“The ThinkDynamics software will help our customers run a far more efficient infrastructure, which can result in significant savings,” said Irving Wladawsky-Berger, IBMs general manager of e-business on demand. “Then they can use those savings to re-invest in innovative projects that help do a better job of solving their business problems.”
ThinkDynamics will be folded into IBMs Software Group, and its products will be sold through the companys Tivoli software unit, officials said.
