PC migration provider Miramar Systems Inc. on Monday will outline its efforts to integrate its Desktop DNA tool with major enterprise management frameworks and tools, including IBMs Tivoli Enterprise Console, Computer Associates International Inc.s Unicenter, Microsofts Systems Management Server and others.
The Santa Barbara, Calif., software provider is also announcing an OEM deal and integration with imaging provider PowerQuest Corp. Desktop DNA is already integrated with Symantec Corp.s Ghost cloning tool as well as with software distribution and change management tools from Novadigm Inc. and On Technology Corp.
“Through customer feedback we recognized that many companies have these management infrastructures, whether its SMS, Novadigm, or On Technology, and theyve built practices around those infrastructures. We dedicated ourselves to integrating Desktop DNA into the existing frameworks people already have to help them maximize their IT investment and leverage management of the PCs DNA,” described Mike Walker, director of marketing in Santa Barbara, Calif.
PowerQuest Corp. has integrated Desktop DNA into its new V2i Builder, which automates operating system deployments, migrations, software distribution and desktop configuration changes. V2i Builder, which offers the Desktop DNA tool as an optional module, was announced today by the Orem, Utah, company.
Desktop DNA was designed from the beginning to be command line driven, providing a higher degree of flexibility in how the user interface is seen—or not seen, said Harry Rabin, senior vice president of corporate development at Miramar in Santa Barbara. “Any framework company can integrate our technology in with theirs and do automated deployment of the DNA of a system, including personalized settings; network and desktop settings; set policy using our technology and revealing as much or as little to the end customer as administrators want,” he said.
The level of integration varies with each vendor, and it ranges from allowing Desktop DNA to be brought up under another tools user interface, to creating agents that are aware of DNA data and can move its packages from a management server to an end station.
Rabin expects the CA Unicenter integration to be ready by June. He gave no time frame for Tivoli integration.
